One mistake that many forums make when they first launch is to add too many forum rooms. This isn't great for the forum as you force members to read 5-10 discussions over 20 forum rooms. It's much better to launch with just a few discussion rooms and then grow the forum according to member suggestions. At the moment I have created 3 discussions rooms: General Taekwondo Discussions Patterns Off Topic (for feedback and other non-taekwondo discussions) What other forum rooms would you like to see here once the forum has more activity. Perhaps separate rooms for ITF and WTF practitioners, Taekwondo at the Olympics, Sparring. If you have any suggestions please let me know Thanks, Kevin
It would be interesting to learn more about books and other helpful sources out there. I am often looking for specific details (i.e. books about the history of TKD).
One other topic, that would be very helpful, is communication about visiting other dojangs when traveling. I am always looking for WTF dojangs when I travel, and it is difficult to find that information for some cities and countries. A general list, with comments, contacts, hours, and other details would be tremendously helpful.
A book room could prove popular. Good suggestion. I'm not sure about building a list of Taekwondo clubs. You could work 40 hours a week for several months on a directly like that and it still wouldn't list all clubs. I've ran directories before. You would need users to submit clubs in order for a directory to grow. Unfortunately, directories always suffer from spam so listings would have to be approved manually.
Thank you for your response. I do not have an experience with running these kind of directories. Very good point!! It is just very challenging to find this information. Maybe a platform, like a forum, where member simply list their experience about locations they visited or know about themselves, or their own clubs might work? I travel all the time and it is difficult to find a place to train. The clubs often do not list if they are ATA or WFT or other schools. Thank you again for your feedback.
I would like it if the health and fitness section was re-named strength and conditioning. I know it seems like a small issue, but strength and conditioning is the term used by professionals in sports development but its a term few have heard of. By re-naming it it strength and conditioning new members are more likely to look that up and come across the work of professional trainers and coaches, rather than entrepreneurs trying to sell their health and fitness programs which are usually based off of bad programming principals and yield limited results with the only concern being a quick buck for the creator. Congrats on a great forum though, you did a good job.
